The Review of the 2008 RED LIST

L'UICN (Union mondiale pour la nature), fut créé en 1963 et fait autorité en matière de biodiversité.

La liste rouge 2008 des espèces menacées, répertorie 16.928 espèces d'animaux ou de plantes menacées d'extinction sur un total 
de 44.838 espèces mises sous surveillance.

3.246 espèces sont classées dans la catégorie à risque la plus élevée "en danger critique", dont 188 mammifères, tel le lynx ibérique (Lynx pardinus) .
